Holi 2020, Festival of Colours will be the biggest Holi celebration in Perth. Holi is a famous and ancient Hindu festival that originated in India and is celebrated in every part of India, as well as many other parts of Asia and the Western world. Holi is known as the "festival of spring", the "festival of colours" and the "festival of love". The festival celebrates colours, the arrival of spring, the end of winter, and the start of a good harvest season. It is a joyous occasion used as a day to frolic, play, laugh and to spend time with family and friends.
Holi begins with a religious ritual in front of a bonfire and prayer to symbolise the triumph of good over evil. This is followed by a time of play, where people traditionally smear each other with colours, and drench each other with water guns and water balloons. People are encouraged to visit friends and family and playfully hit them with coloured powder. There is also music, song and dance and traditional Holi food and drinks.
To celebrate Holi in 2020, the Indian Society of WA will be hosting Holi 2020, The Festival of Colours, which promises to be a day of colour, family, culture and fun. Holi 2020, The Festival of Colours will be held in Langley Park in Perth on Sunday, 8 March 2020 from 11am to 5pm. This will be a smoke free, alcohol free, family friendly event. Entry will be FREE.
