It's on again! The festival of colour, Holi.

Holi is so much fun for everyone. This is the one where you get powdered or liquid colours and cover each other in them. Be prepared to be attacked with bright colours and get your own back by throwing colour on them. Get into the spirit, and wear your old clothes so you won't care that they end up looking like a warped rainbow.

In India, the festival marks the end of winter and the abundance of the upcoming spring harvest season. In Australia, we celebrate colour, fun, Indian festivities and the colours of multicultural Australia!

Like Easter, the date of Holi changes every year as it is celebrated the day after the full moon in March each year. In 2013, Holi is on Wednesday, March 27 and will be celebrated at Sandown Racecourse on April 1st, which is a public holiday Monday.

There will be a variety of stalls, like a market. The DJ will be playing some celebratory tunes, music to get you dancing on the grass. The vibe is playful I know from previous years, with everyone armed with colours and huge smile. This day you are allowed to act like a big kid. Creep up and get your friends!



Here's a tip - rub hair oil or coconut oil into your skin beforehand, to prevent the colour from absorbing.

Kids of course, love it too! There will be rides for them as well.

If you have never been to Holi celebrations before, here is your chance to do something unlike you have done before. If you have, you won't want to miss it. It is an alcohol free event. There's a small entry fee (it was $5 last year) and tickets are available at the gate. Parking is free.
