Since mid-year Holoverse has been sitting in Southport providing hours of fun for people willing to give the virtual reality games on offer a go, and earlier this week the hubby and I were lucky enough to try it out. We were both absolutely blown away by how much fun this activity was and want to recommend it to every fun loving adult out there; as it is definitely not just for kids.

Upon arrival you are given the choice of two different experiences (or you are welcome to try both). The first is a series of ten little adventures that allow you to fully interact with the holographic world. You can practice walking through walls, swimming and will even get the chance to fall through simulated the air thanks to simulated gravity.

The second however, is the world's first Holographic Computer game that allows you to actually be a part of the game rather than just play it. This brilliant adventure is called False Eden and should be on the bucket list of any avid gamer. It is also a great game for kids, however parents are asked to try it out first before letting their children in to fight off some of the scary beasts in the game.

Once you have agreed to undertake this adventure you move through a series of visually appealing environments including overgrown jungles, desolate deserts and towering mountain ranges to rescue a girl trapped on an alien planet. But you can't just waltz on into the rooms you have to get kitted up first. This involves strapping on some special glasses that allow you see the beasties jump right out of you. You are also given headphones that allow the hologram scientists to give you instructions, and help fully immerse all of your senses into the game. Finally, you are given a wand that, once calibrated, becomes your sword, your crossbow or a special staff. It is with this wand that you fight off the alien wolves, ferocious frogs, and deadly dinosaurs. You can choose to use the wand however you like; with a few flicks of the wrist if you prefer. But I couldn't help myself, I threw myself into the game, twisting and turning my body to duck and dodge evil animals and the fire the spit at you. I don't think you can deny that the more you throw yourself into the game, the more you will enjoy it. I know for me, this was probably what allowed me to enjoy it the most.

What excites me even more about the brilliance of Holoverse is that new games are constantly being designed. This means that when I head back next time (and I will be heading back) that I can try my hand at a completely different adventure.

Whilst you need to book ahead for Holoverse the fact that it has forty individual rooms set up for hologram gaming means you aren't going to have to wait weeks to get in. Plus this makes it a perfect activity for group adventures too; you can play alongside each other and compare scores at the end. I believe they even do kids birthdays for those with young ones.

And Brisbanites, if the journey down to Southport is just too much to handle, never fear because I hear rumours that a mini version with just six rooms may be opening up in the CBD sooner than you think.
