Hokuto Japanese Cafe is just outside Melbourne Central Station and across the road from RMIT. It is a fairly newish place which caters for RMIT students and staff.

The service there is sub-par but some of their food makes up for it. It is best if you know what you are ordering and have your money ready before entering the queue.

They don't have a huge menu - for example, Agedashi tofu is not on offer, but they do have sushi dishes and green tea in paper cups. I had the Chirashi sushi and boy, it was nice. The fish was fresh and they actually used the correct rice.

It's a great spot for students - but not so great for the ones who have allergies. But do give it a try.
