Hokkaido Baked Cheese Tarts are another Japanese business spreading food love in Melbourne. Hokkaido has multiple stores across Melbourne, Brisbane, Sydney and around the world. Think Singapore, Hong Kong, Brunei and several other large Asian cities.
After walking past countless times, I succumbed. So if you have thought about it but have resisted, then it's time. The way the store is set out makes you feel like you are worth a million dollars. It is deliberately set out that way to make the tarts look like little jewels. It is very effective.
Upon entering the store, you will be welcomed by a very friendly, and attentive voice. The server was excellent. As it was my first time here, she explained the difference between the tarts and how best to order. She explained to me that the original cheese tart was the most popular flavour and that it has three types of cheeses in it. I ended up taking one of those. For $3.90, it was a steal. Hokkaido has a minimum Wftpos of $10 unless you pay by cash, ao if you're only after one tart, I recommend taking cash.
The Tart. Well, are there even words? Crumbly, melt in your mouth, super shortcrust pastry (and I'm no Masterchef)! It has a delicious light luscious cheesy custard, like no custard tart I've ever eaten.
