The Hog's Breath Cafe along Willis Street in Launceston is one of a chain of restaurants in Australia that specialises in offering steak. A nice touch during our visit were discs of paper that expanded into wet wipes when placed in the trays of water provided.

Offered as a special during our visit was a 200 g Prime Rib Steak accompanied by half of a rock lobster. The steak that we had cooked to medium was not dry. The exterior had a delectable charred flavour. The lobster was of a good size and cooked just right. The garlic butter it was cooked in gave it a mild garlic flavour. A lemon wedge came with the dish to squeeze over the lobster.

For the two sides that we could pick, we chose Curly Fries and House Slaw. The Curly Fries were crisp and fluffy, and the cabbage in the House Slaw retained its crunch. The House Slaw had sufficient dressing to give it a creamy flavour without masking the taste of the cabbage.

One of their appetisers, the flesh of the Buffalo Chicken Wings was juicy and was set off nicely by the crisp coating. We liked that they were big enough to sate your appetite while waiting for your main dishes. The buffalo sauce that the wings were tossed in gave them a spicy punch with a hint of sourness. Homemade blue cheese dressing served on the side helped to soothe the spiciness. For those concerned about its taste, it was not too strong.

The restaurant had a rustic feel with a good amount of seating space. Off-street parking for customers is available at the front of the restaurant.
