An easy and leisurely walk amongst the towering gum trees and through a cool temperate rainforest will bring you to in Strahan Tasmania.

Listed as one of Tasmania's 60 Great Short Walks , the rainforest walk to is a walk that every visitor to Strahan simply must do.

The walking trail and waterfalls are located within People's Park at Risby Cove - a 2 minute drive or 10 minute walk from the town centre of Strahan. It is located on the Esplanade; midway between the Strahan Wharf and Regatta Point on the shores of the harbour.

The gravel path is well maintained and is a comfortable and relaxed walk for most people. The walk, which follows Botanical Creek, is graded as Level 2, which means that it is an easy walk and is suitable for most levels of fitness. The interpretative signs along the length of the trail were created by the local school children - so nice to see!

The track can be wet and muddy in places, so appropriate footwear is highly recommended. Carry water with you and as always when walking in nature, be aware of the weather conditions before heading off.

The walk, depending on your pace and the number of times you stop to take photos can take anything between 40 and 60 minutes return. It's approximately 1.2kms each way to the falls. Keep a quiet and careful watch in the early morning and at dusk - platypus are known to live in the creek!

The waterfall itself is approximately 5 to 10 metres high and runs all year round. There is a viewing platform as well as access to a flat rocky area for photographs. There's room for a couple of people at a time here, but the rocks are slippery so take care.

My opinion of People's Park, the rainforest walk and is very high. The rainforest is breathtaking, the paths and park are clean and well looked after and the toilets are spotless. If you are visiting Strahan, be sure to stop here for a stunning piece of paradise. Your pet dog (on a leash) is welcome to walk with you too!

I thoroughly enjoyed this little park and everything within it. What a great find!

Strahan, on the west coast of Tasmania is a pretty harbourside village set on the edge of the World Heritage Area of the Franklin/Gordon Wild Rivers National Park. It is located approximately 300kms from Hobart on the east coast and 270kms from Launceston on the north coast.
