A carefully curated collection of neat vintage items
There's a little picket fence with a vintage bike tied to it which looks like it's a lovely residential property amid the bustling businesses on Paddington's thriving Given Terrace. However, if you step inside the gates, you will see some retro outdoor furniture, ladders and all manner of lovely pre-loved goods which all belong to the cute and cheerful business, Hobohemia.
The little shack at the back of the lawn is crammed full of collectibles and oddities from the 1920's - 1960's with items ranging from chintz plates to crinoline gowns. The three rooms are jam-packed with goodness and you will find yourself able to spend hours gazing lovingly at the pretty jewels you find within.
I found beautiful crockery in mismatched patterns as well as a wall of vintage boardgames and tins displayed in an old wooden mail sorting station. There were dolls houses as well as retro photo frames complete with black and white ladies in antique gowns. Perhaps my favourite item though was the tin watering-can, complete with folk-art roses which I found in the garden on the way out.
The word hobohemia has come to be associated with traditionally low-rent suburbs where artistic bohemians and lower socioeconomic classes live in harmony. This is no longer true of Paddington as it becomes more gentrified but the name harks back to previous days in the area as it was changing from a bunch of run-down Queenslanders into a thriving and profitable shopping district.
Happy days at the Hobo House

After almost 4 wonderful years at the Hobo House, it's time for a change of premises. We've already relocated stock to 2 antique Centres - the iconic Paddington Antique Centre and the fabulous Reloveinc in Oxley. Both 7 days, so you can get your Hobo & coffee fix sorted! Our last day trading at Given Tce will be Sunday April 19th. Drop in & say your goodbyes to the Hobo House, but not to Hobohemia! Happy Days! @paddingtonantiquecentre @reloveinc
