HMS Beagle Ship Bell Chime

I was walking through Civic Park one day and heard a beautiful tune. It was a bell chime. Firstly I thought it was coming from the Cathedral Church, but as I walked towards the Darwin City Council's building, I realised the tune was played by the bells just in front of the building.
There were eleven bells in a semi-circle, from the smallest size to the biggest size. They were a replica of the HMS Beagle ship bell chime. Linking Darwin City to Charles Darwin's voyage on the HMS Beagle, the bells were created by Dr Anton Hasell of Australian Bell Pty Ltd to celebrate 200 years since the birth of Charles Darwin (1809-1883) in 2009. Besides the bells, the monument also has a bronze sculpture of a young Charles Darwin.
On Charles Darwin's journey to a place that now is known as Darwin, he was amazed at the variety of birds he saw, including parrots, a small Budgeringer and Black Cockatoo. These birds were sculpted in bronze and perched on top of bells on The HMS Beagle Ship.
From Mondays to Saturdays, the bells will chime 3 times a day, at 12 noon, 2.00pm and 4.00pm. On Sundays, the bells only chime twice, at 7.20am and 8.50am.
