Historical Members Hosting Informative Walk Around Toowong
The Toowong and District Historical Society Inc (TDHS) is an open organisation and anyone can join. The group meets on the fourth Friday of each month. Monthly meetings always feature a guest speaker from various historical institutions who present on numerous topics; biographies, published works from other historians, schools and churches, history from other areas, book talks, local community organisations and so forth. A morning tea follows each monthly meeting. Meetings are held in the Toowong Library, Top floor of the Toowong Village.

Established in 2003, the society's aim is to foster an interest in research and history of Toowong and its neighbouring suburbs. On Sunday 5th August 2018, members of the Toowong and District Historical Society Inc are holding a history walk around High and Jephson Streets and Sherwood Road. After the railway line was built in the mid to late 1870's, these streets became what is known as Toowong's business district.
The walk will take approximately one and a half hours and participants are asked to be at the Toowong Post Office Business Centre at 9.30am. The area to be covered is relatively flat and will suit anyone with a moderate level of fitness. Suggestion to wear good walking shoes, bring a hat, sunscreen, water and a snack to have along the way. This is a great opportunity to be educated on the history of the area from knowledgeable members who have a passion for the Toowong district. Depending on the number of attendees, the group may be split in two.
Publications on the history of Toowong will be available for sale.
