Did you miss it? What a tragedy! History Illuminated was a week of presentations from over 30 authors, historians and researchers, organised by Lake Macquarie libraries, with most sessions for a gold coin donation only. There were also bus tours, a cruise and a writing masterclass. What more could you want? If you thought it might be too "stuffy" to enjoy, you could not have been more wrong.

Peter FitzSimons was the guest speaker launching the program and was both entertaining and humorous. The bubbly and canapes went down a treat too! The following week the presentations covered a vast array of topics - the yahoo (yowie); the Fernleigh Track; wartime stories; bushrangers; women who forged a place in Australian history; colonial conflict; historical photos providing a visual sense of place, and fashion through the years. And then there were more!

A varied and interesting program to tempt even those with little interest in the past. This is the third year of operation and hopefully, it will continue with our support. I'd suggest you mark September 2020 in your calendar right now. You won't regret it, whether you attend just one or two sessions or the week in its entirety.
