This June 2022, the Workers' Educational Association (WEA) is organising a
weekend tour of historic pastoral property ruins around South Australia. In particular, you will be exploring the ruins of grand estates such as the Kanyaka,
Baroota and Bowman Park stations. Baroota's head homestead was once a six-roomed pine paling house although now what remains serve as a significant window into an aspect of our state's past.
You will visit the townships of Carrieton and Cradock in the Willochra region as well as a couple of ghost towns along the way. You will also travel through the picturesque Pichi Richi Pass.
Jamestown and Pt Pirie will be your lunch stops for the two days. In case you're not aware, the well-known Australian businessman RM Williams was born in Jamestown.
As the sun goes to bed, you will too at a motel in quaint and quiet Quorn. But, before you do, the town's
silo illuminations is a must. It features a sequence of animated stories celebrating the Flinders Ranges. In addition to the audiovisual projection, I found the Curly Cue countdown to be rather unique as well.
The cost is $328 per person twin share and bookings can be made by contacting WEA on 8223 1979. Dinner and breakfast are included. The tour will depart from the WEA Centre at 8:30am on Saturday the 4th and return approximately 6pm the next day. Do check out their
website for more information.
