Several months ago my local video store closed down and we didn't want to join an online streaming service, so we've been getting movies from our local library. Yesterday I took the plunge and decided to try a video kiosk.
The process of hiring a video from a kiosk is relatively straight forward. You use the touchscreen to scroll through a menu of different DVDs which are available. All of the movies are new release or recently released.
It's a three step process. You select the movie or movies you wish to hire. Sign in with your email and mobile phone number and then swipe your visa or credit card.
Your video will pop out the slot and you have until 9pm the next day to return the video. When you get home you'll find a receipt in your email in box.
I selected the movie 'How to Be Single' and I enjoyed the silly jokes and banter, but my husband thought it was a bit ordinary. The video hire cost only three dollars and fifty which I thought was reasonable. You may need to clean the disc before you use it, as ours was covered in finger prints.
You can find out where your closest video kiosk is by searching on one of these video hire websites in Australia:
