hip hop-eration is a hilarious and empowering New Zealand documentary presented by Inkubator in association with The New Zealand Film Commission.
Screening as part of the
Transitions Film Festival 2016 program, this doco will have you look at our senior citizens in a whole new light. If you have any misconceptions or prejudices about the elderly, it'll blow it out of the water.
Written and directed by Bryn Evans, we follow a group of senior citizens and their enthusiastic and exuberant manager Billie Jordan.
The preparation for their journey to Las Vegas to compete in the World Hip Hop Dance Championships is just the beginning. Along the way they learn to throw away their wheelchairs and walking sticks and push their joints, real and artificial to the absolute limits of old age.
Hip hopping their way into the hearts and minds of thousands of young fans around the world, it's a reminder to all of us to live life with joy and to the fullest. Getting fit and gaining a new lease on life is one of the many benefits along the way.
The Hip Op-eration Crew grew from being a flash mob in 2012 to becoming an official hip hop group in 2013. All members of the group live on Waiheke Island near Auckland. They have graced the front cover of the Wall Street Journal, aired on BBC television, and featured on many other international media networks including Fox News, Today Australia, ABC News, and most recently, widespread attention throughout Mainland China.
Internet sensations since performing in the Vegas championship and successfully competing at the National Hip Hop Championships in Auckland for the past two years, their performances are synonymous with standing ovations.
This is a real feel-good must-see documentary.
