The coolest kids' dance club in the Hills
Wondering how to get your child exercising and away from the screen?
Not every kid is into sports, so here is a great alternative way for them to get active - Coromandel Community Centre is once again running its after school 'Hip Hop dancing' classes for kids.
Hip hop dance is a street dance style usually performed to hip-hop music and it includes a wide range of styles which primarily includes 'breaking, locking, and popping'. According to Wikipedia these groovy moves were created in the 1970s and made popular by street dance crews in the United States. The dance style was brought to a wider audience by the television show Soul Train and the 1980s films Breakin', Beat Street, and Wild Style and now hip hop dance is practiced in both dance studios and outdoor spaces.
This type of dancing is great fun to do. Plus it will help kids keep fit, improve coordination, flexibility and strength, and for some, it will give them a boost to their confidence.
As well as learning the basic moves, kids are also encouraged to come up with a few of their own, and they will show these off to parents, family and friends in an end of term performance.
