I was staying a few days on the Gold Coast, and despite a busy schedule wanted to fit in a trip to the Hinterland, Springbrook area. I had never been before.
So, on my second last day set off early. I hadn't planned on visiting the
HInze Dam, but when I saw the sign, I decided to check it out.I was impressed.

The Hinze Dam Cafe and Centre
The Visitors Centre is an imposing building with meeting rooms, a cafe and bathroom facilities. It overlooks the dam.

Views across the dam
There are displays with much information about the history of the area before the dam was created in 1976. The dam has been upgraded several times since.

Plenty of Information about the dam
There's no doubt you could spend a day there - there are plenty of places to walk, fantastic scenery and information about the history of the area. Many Queenslanders will remember Russ Hinze, a larger than life member of the state parliament. It was his grandparents who lived on the land and farmed it, before the dam was built. It was that family after whom the dam was named.

Coffee Anyone, with a View
There's plenty of parking, many walking paths, and lots to do. Fishing and boating is also available but you will need a permit, so check out the details on the website.

The Dam Wall
Photographers - don't forget to take your camera/s.There are so many great opportunities for great shots.
