Need an excuse to head to Kells for a weekend of literature, culture and arts – and then some? The Hinterland Festival is back!

With a huge line-up of authors and artists, there's something for everyone!

What's on?
The festival will again serve up a mix of events about literature, sport, history, cookery, politics, journalism, architecture, the law, music, travel and security! And of course, the Lit Crawl .

New event
A new event, The Rick O'Shea Book Club, will see Rick discussing Oh My God What a Complete Aisling by Emer McLysaght and Sarah Breen with four on-stage critics. The authors will also be there to talk about their best-selling book.

The History Show Festival returns
In collaboration with the RTE Radio 1 Sunday night programme, you can get your history on with 'Remembering 1918' and 'Remembering 1968', aka The History Show Festival. The 2018 line-up includes Professor Roy Foster, Catriona Crowe and Dr David McCullagh. At 'Adventures in …' two experienced practitioners will talk about their professions. This year's guests are former Chief Justice Susan Denham and literary agent Jonathan Williams.

It's not all fiction!
The non-fiction events include former Sinn Fein leader Gerry Adams, public interviews with Nick Davies, The Guardian journalist who exposed the phone hacking scandal, Mary Manning, the woman at the centre of the 1984 anti-apartheid Dunnes Stores strike (along with co-writer Sinead O'Brien), and Tracy Corbett-Lynch, sister of the murdered Irishman Jason Corbett, who has co-authored a book on his murder with Ralph Riegel.

Free events for kids
County Meath's 'Crinniú na nÓg' will take place on 23 June and all children's, teens and Young Adult events will be free of charge. There will also be the celebration of Harry Potter at 21, with a quiz, a treasure Hunt and a Kelly Gartland workshop.

Music
Peter Fallon will again host Oisin and Saramai Leech in an intimate evening of words and music, Tom Dunne returns with the fiftieth anniversary of The White Album, and Matthew Gilsenan (The Celtic Tenors) will perform the music of John McCormack in the ballroom of Headfort House.
