Fri 28 Oct 2016 - Sun 30 Oct 2016

The 5th hillsceneLIVE since its inception in 2014, it's grown so much, it's bursting at the seams with exciting and exceptional artists. Thus one day is not enough, and this event that exists to support the development and nurturing of the emerging and experimental arts sector of Victoria, is running over three days. Nestled in the Dandenong Ranges, it'll be celebrated over multiple venues in Mt Evelyn.

Friday 28 October to Sunday 30 October 2016 are the dates you want to take note of in your diary and the address will be given upon booking. Friday (VIP launch party): 7pm - Late; Saturday 12pm - 7pm (followed by hillsceneLIVE 100 Gourmet Feast & DJ's spinning tunes late into the night); Sunday: 1pm - 7pm. Tickets are $25 for Saturday or Sunday and $40 for a two day pass. Weekend Passes also grant you access to the Friday night launch party. CLICK HERE for bookings.

Featuring 25 events spanning dance, theatre, sound art, installations, live art, panel discussions, workshops, interventions and more, it's the only program of its kind. A partnership between Burrinja Cultural Centre , hillscene magazine and Gareth Hart , it pulsates with creativity in one of the most artistic communities in the country.

The theme for this year is 'mapping immediacy' and artists will be considering their work and their selves within a contemporary social space. You'll find live art and performances in unusual spaces like abandoned spaces, a licensed bar and more. Unlike anything else, each artist has tackled this theme differently in wild and wonderful ways. This is a festival not to be missed!

Program highlights of the 2016 festival include:

  • Rachel Jones' 24 hour durational theatre performance, exploring anxiety.
  • Jeremy Swan's kinetic sculpture installed within a temporary shipping container.
  • Dani-Ela Kayler's poetic dance-theatre piece using leaves as a metaphor for the hardship of leaving.
  • Eliza Philip's installation inside a real boat, exploring migration and refugee issues.
  • 'Stonewalled' – a three part circus piece where the walls literally become the floors.
  • Rod Price's 'Everyone Makes Noise', using social media to generate sound sources, which are remixed live into an undulated sound score.
  • Deep conversations around Regional Arts Practice, Vulnerability and Socially engaged practice.
  • Shannan Lim's 'Salty' – contemporary theatrical slants on the lurid demons of Singaporean-Malay mythology.
  • hillsceneLIVE 100, a social inclusion project that serves up a gourmet dinner to 100 people for free, offers free access to festival activities, and featuring an exhibition of local artist Eliza Philip's most recent work.
