Highview Drive is aptly named. If you arrive at the top end of the Drive, you will have a view of a distant hill covered with houses.

The Drive is only about 700 metres long. But both sides have interesting gardens so a 1400 metre walk will give you visual pleasure and a good workout as it has a constant rise over its length. You can have a rest on your return downhill walk.

While many modern houses do not have front fences, of those that do, the most interesting are ones that are not the usual boring brick ones. My favourites are picket fences which allow flowering bushes to escape and display their colours against the backdrop of the fence.

One high wooden fence was improved by having a mass of red geraniums cascading to ground level. Many other flowers and plants had escaped from their garden onto the footpath.

If you insist on having a front fence on your street property opt for an interesting design, such as white picket or wrought iron in interesting patterns.

A most attractive garden was a profusion of different flowers and plants, reminiscent of an English cottage garden, full of different coloured flowers.

The only avian activity were two magpies in a gum tree and one noisy miner in a tree and another at ground level.

I was not disappointed in seeing a couple of unusual flowers, which always make street walks interesting.

Flowering bushes add a lot of visual interest as they usually show a mass of colourful blooms.

Even without flowers many bushes are attractive with their different colourings.

Non-vehicle traffic was only two young lads on bikes and a young lady striding along delivering pamphlets. Exercise with a purpose.

Perhaps the most common flower seen were roses, many different colours, but one that stood out was a brilliant yellow specimen.

Halloween was almost upon us when I walked this street and a pleasant surprise was a Halloween-themed display on a front lawn. It was a visual treat.

Highview Drive is a well-established area with many houses exhibiting older style front yards and gardens, but there is enough new ones to make this walk interesting.
