This park, on the outskirts of Melbourne, has it all and welcomes everyone. With several enticing aspects to it, you could easily spend an entire day here.


The large man-made lake is home to a large number of various waterbirds,


Including a beautiful pair of resident swans (who are often napping in the peaceful surrounds!),


and even a refreshing, cascading waterfall,


It's quite relaxing to sit on one of the many park benches, strategically placed to enjoy the many vantage points along the lake,


With a number to choose from, you're likely to find at least one that's available just for you,


A long, windy path runs along the length of the large, scenic lake. It's perfect for an evening stroll with the family or dog, or even for something more active.


In fact, there is a free 5km community park-run held at the reserve, every Saturday morning at 8am, meeting at the cafe.


After the event, grab a coffee or even a hearty breakfast at the cafe on the lake. The Highlands Waterside Cafe is open daily from 8.30am-5pm and sits right on the lake's edge.


From the cafe, you have a clear view of the stunning water jets, yet another unique feature of this park,


Alternatively, there are a number of sheltered picnic spots to claim as your own and enjoy the wonderful outdoors,


while the large children's playground is sure to be a hit with the little ones,


As you can see, there really is something for everyone at this well thought out nature reserve. It's like a breath of fresh air to visit , each and every time.
