Step Back in Time at Highfields Pioneer Museum
Just north of Toowoomba, nestled in the outskirts of Highfields, is the Highfields Pioneer Village, which is open from 10 am to 4 pm daily, and during the year conducts a number of special events, including Australia Day celebrations, Easter Festival, Big Cuppa and Poets Breakfast. Details can be found on the website.
"No matter how old you are there is something for everyone at Highfields Pioneer Village!" says the website and it is true. There are over 60 well-preserved buildings and well presented exhibitions of a wide range of historical items.
The Village is run by volunteers, many of whom dress in period costume, especially for special event days.
The gardens are wonderful, and the exhibits are exceptional with the new Energy Museum, and the Transport Museum with many bicycles on display from the ceiling of the building, and other vehicles.
Each year at Easter they celebrate with a 3 day Easter Vintage Festival which has a wide variety of historical and fun events for all the family including a grand parade, vintage fashion parades, a wide range of demonstrations and re-enactments, including the arrest of "Ned Kelly".
