Come along to the Poppies Community Craft Afternoon at the Highett Neighbourhood Community House, 2 Livingtston St, Highett on Saturday 11 November 2017 from 1pm to 4pm. Bring a friend, a neighbour or family to this free event, along with a plate to share. Continue the tradition of honouring all who have served in all wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations.
What began as a small personal tribute by two Australian women to honour their fathers who fought in World War II, has become an international tribute of respect and remembrance, not just for those who served but their families and communities as well.
Crocheters and knitters are needed to start this project a year in advance, contributing to the '5000 Poppy Project' where 62,000 knitted or crocheted poppies are required for a mass display on Remembrance Day at the National War Museum, Canberra on 11 November 2018. This is NOT a tutorial, hence you will need to have some experience in knitting and crocheting. Bring your own 8 ply red/black/green yarn, 3.5mm crochet hooks or 3.75mm knitting needles.
Please find pattern HERE, if you'd like to begin making them at home. Collection of the finished poppies can be brought to the house as you go, or bring them in on the day of this event. Tea and coffee will be available to go with your BYO plate of food to share.
