Love those old fashioned love songs
This is going to give my age away but I remember as a child singing along to 'Da Doo Ron Ron' by The Crystals. The black and white clip from the 50s on Youtube and has nearly a million views. You can't help but bop to it. I challenge you.

Life was so simple then. In those days, you kissed someone because you loved them. There was no swearing, no violence, no worrying about walking home in the dark. Just sweet romantic tunes and innocent lyrics. In contrast to these days, you meet your date online, stalk them on Facebook and Instagram first, and you still end up with a nutcase.

I often tell my kids their songs are ghastly and tell them the titles of my childhood songs. Lollipop… what a beauty. They laugh hysterically and beg me to stop singing. For a dose of melancholy, you must go see one of the most celebrated sister acts, now in Melbourne for a limited season.

Presented as one of the best acts they have ever had on stage. These identical twins - The Doo Ron Rons deliver the songs we all know and love (excluding teens perhaps). Strung together like a bit of a love journey from courtship until marriage, the girls sing with enthusiastic gusto. So much so I can actually imagine them living in the 50s and 60s - Do you remember?

'Stop in the name of love'

'Be my Little baby'

'Will you still love me tomorrow?'

'Going to the Chapel!'

'Ain't no mountain high enough'

And I can't believe my luck… 'Lollipop'. [/I]

Covering classics from the Supremes, The Ronettes, The Pointer Sisters and more. Sing along, laugh along with their banter, and be transported back to the innocence and glory of music's golden era! And as if that weren't enough, we were treated to high tea of fresh sandwiches, miniature pavs, grapes, caramel slices, other biscuits and cakes.

During the performance, I heard one audience member say 'They're so cute'. I found myself foot tapping and singing but then so was the rest of the audience.

If you know these songs, then you have to go and see the magical, fun loving Doo Ron Rons. Take a break from reality and travel back in time when perms, mullets and high waisted trousers were in and you drove a dinted Corolla, which had a name.

I spoke to a couple of audience members before leaving and they said ' How could you not enjoy yourself, it was so much fun.' 'It's great for us oldies who prefer a daytime alternative to the movies'. The audience were middle-aged and older but anyone who loved this era and the classic songs will love it.

And if you love it you can get the double feature tics. Make it a real treat, two performances, two theatres and food and drink if you'd like.

To finish this review, I just want to quote from an old favourite…. The Do Ron Rons… they caught my eye, oh my oh my!

A couple of words about the Speakeasy HQ Vaudeville Theatre

This is the only independent Vaudeville Theatre in Melbourne. This means lots of short acts. This is a small majestic theatre that history buffs will love. This is a magnificent building built in the gold rush. One of the intimate theatres is actually an old bank vault. It feels royal and you can imagine lots of activity here over its lifetime. Sit back and enjoy the surroundings and consider getting a food package. We sampled the high tea, there are also Devonshire teas, sandwich selections and champers for those who indulge. Here's an example of the packages they have to offer. I think they'd make a perfect gift voucher. Mother's Day is coming up….
