A great idea for that special occasion
Pre-wedding events such as Kitchen Teas or Bridal Showers are fun ways to bring family and friends together before the big day. A few weeks ago, I had the privilege of attending a friend's Kitchen Tea, which was held at the Rendezvous Hotel in Melbourne. What better way to celebrate this occasion, than with a spectacular afternoon High Tea.
The Rendezvous Hotel is a century old historic building within Melbourne CBD. Originally built in 1913 as the Commercial Travellers Association, this classic building oozes architectural old-world charm. Mahogany timber, leather armchairs, and black marble columns tastefully decorate the traditional interior foyer and bar area.
As you head down the grand staircase to Straits Cafe, where afternoon tea is held, the ambiance changes to a contemporary feel. A modern setting with earth-toned decor delivers a comfortable and cozy atmosphere.
The classic High Tea is commenced with a glass of sparkling wine. Sip away on your glass of bubbles while you indulge in afternoon tea favorites served on a round silver three-tiered stand.
Begin with your finger sandwiches, savory is usually eaten before sweets. The Rendezvous serve petite sandwiches filled with the traditional ham and cheese, cucumber, tuna and egg fillings. Then, treat yourself to the fluffy scones. There is always the question of High Tea that remains when discussing the jam and cream etiquette. Which do you spread first? Is it the cream first then the jam, like the Devonshire? Or is it the jam first and then the cream, like the Cornish? Personally, I like to apply my jam first and then top with a dollop of cream. So, I guess it comes down to individual preference.

Jam and cream or cream and jam?
Finally, satisfy those sweet taste buds with an assortment of treats. Mini cupcakes, ganache tarts, fruit-flavored cheesecake slice, delightful macarons, and fresh chocolate coated strawberries all accompanied by freshly brewed coffee or a hot cup of tea.
Enjoy this exclusive afternoon tea with someone special, amongst the grandeur of this centrally located Melbourne hotel. Or book your next special occasion, such as a Kitchen Tea, and celebrate together with a High Tea at the Rendezvous Hotel.
