High tea on the high teas, or at the very least on the calmer waters between Queenscliff and Sorrento
This is one of the more unusual ways of enjoying afternoon tea. Ferries are traditionally synonymous with bad coffee that slops around in polystyrene cups.
But this afternoon tea will change your views while providing stunning views. Outside the windows, you can watch the spectacular coastal scenery with its lighthouses, historic fortifications, cliff-top mansions and marine life such as dolphins, seabirds and occasionally whales.
The high tea is served in the section of the ferry known as the Portsea Lounge. And as we all know, anything named Portsea spells posh.
So there are lovely white tablecloths and china cups. You can indulge in afternoon tea of finger sandwiches, cakes, and desserts served with freshly brewed tea or expresso coffee and/or sparkling wine during the 40-minute crossing. The tiered platter has wonderful regional produce.
At $75, the package also represents good value as it includes the ferry ride. The normal return fare alone costs $34. The experience runs for 2 hours there and back.
The novelty factor and superb views make it well worth considering as a unique way to spend an afternoon.
Bookings are essential.
