The Langham Sydney does a decadent high tea in flawless style. This luxury hotel located at The Rocks is a perfect destination for a high tea experience. Just a few quick minutes from Darling Harbour and Barangaroo, this Kent street address speaks of great service, beautiful decor and luxurious hospitality.
The ever so elegant three-tiers of sweet and savoury, placed with delicate balance and great finesse makes for a great afternoon experience that one cannot get enough of. The Langham afternoon tea is served in Wedgewood silverware and the table once set looks as pretty as a picture.
The list of fine teas available for selection makes it hard to just pick one, however, I highly recommend their iced teas and oolong peach if you prefer a hot tea. The other teas definitely don't disappoint, be it lemon and ginger or sencha.
The service at the Langham is great and by no means did our table of guests feel rushed. The tea and the food arrived together and over a 3 tier stand, we were served a selection of sweet and savoury items that ranged from delectable scones, sandwiches, macarons and desserts.
Tier 1 included a selection of Pear and Honey Dome, Jivara and Passionfruit Mousse, Coconut and Lychee Lamington, Yuzu and white chocolate pie and Matcha and Mascarpone Macaroon. The macaroon and the lamington were my top picks although everything on that tier was a winner.
For savoury a selection of beef and mushroom pie, chicken liver parfait, truffled cheese gougere, poached chicken and candied walnut tartlet, smoked salmon finger sandwich and a roast vegetable finger sandwich with hummus was included. The tartlet and pie was an absolute winner. Each 3 tier stand catered for 2 guests and the vegetarian in our group was also treated to their own stand of deliciousness.
Tier 3 was completely occupied (rightly so) with the scones and jam and cream. They did deserve a tier of their own.
