Where should I go for high tea in Canberra? This is a highly contested question that until recently did not have a clear answer. Getting the perfect combination of atmosphere, service and food is not something to be taken lightly and is in fact vital when after a genuine high tea experience.

By this I mean that the presentation of food (which should be both sweet and savoury) should be immaculate, there should be a number of scrumptious teas to choose from (all of which are offered in the form of a traditional tea service) and there should of course be a champagne option.

The atmosphere must be sophisticated, light and spacious; hopefully with a view. Finally, the service should be warm, friendly and prompt.

After having tried somewhere new on Saturday with a group of my closest girlfriends, I believe I can safely say that I have found the nicest place in Canberra to have high tea...The Burbury.

The Burbury is an award winning, 4.5 star luxury hotel located in the Realm precinct of Barton and they have just started offering high tea on the rooftop terrace. With sweeping views of the city, lake and leafy Barton, high tea at The Burbury would have to be Canberra's most exclusive high tea experience.

The French cakes and tarts were delicious, as were the delicate savoury options and scones. The tea menu was more than satisfactory, as was the service. On the whole we felt like we had been spoilt and we thoroughly enjoyed what was a luxuriously girly afternoon.

Prices are more than reasonable, with the Champagne service costing $49 and the Traditional service costing $39. For bookings call: 0261631818

I highly recommend The Burbury for your next high tea experience in Canberra.
