Everyone deserves to be treated like a queen once in a while. I recommend 'High Tea' - the ultimate indulgence.
Dating back to the reign of
Queen Catherine , wife of King Charles II of England, high tea is traditionally served in the late afternoon. Loose leaf tea is brewed and served in pretty tea cups while petite sandwiches, savouries, scones, and sweet treats are presented on tiered plate stands. The modern Australian high tea may be served in the morning or afternoon, and a glass of sparkling wine or champagne is often included.
The Stamford Plaza (CBD) hosts the most renowned 'High Tea' in Brisbane. 'High Tea' may be taken on the terrace overlooking the Brisbane River or in the hotel lobby where guests are entertained by a live string ensemble. The Stamford has three sittings: Traditional Morning Tea, Afternoon Tea, and a Chocolate High Tea Buffet. Prices start at $35 per person.
Other hotels in the city that serve 'High Tea' include the
Sofitel ,
Marriott , and
Hilton .
There are several quaint and charming tea houses in Brisbane.
Queenies Traditional Tea House (Nundah) and
Forget Me Not Tea Room (Graceville) are well known for their wonderful tea selections and edible delights.
The Cobble Stone Tea House (New Farm) has been receiving rave reviews since opening late last year.
Why not turn it into a day trip?
Tea & Niceties (Mt Tamborine) and
The Old Teahouse Gallery (Gold Coast) are two worth making a trip to.
High tea sittings are usually one and a half to two hours long. Bookings are essential and not all establishments welcome children. It is best to check beforehand. Prices vary.
If you have experienced Brisbane's best 'High Tea', leave a comment and share with other Weekend Notes readers.
