Willunga Hotel (number 5) offers quality meals such as their specialty schnitzels with different toppings and sauces. For dessert, they serve an indulgent sundae that comes in many flavours. You can dine in the restaurant, at the bar or outside in the beer garden. The hotel's exquisite two-storey stone building with its cantilevered balcony is state-heritage-listed and provides a unique ambience for diners.

Started in 1992, Russell's Pizza (number 13) continues to bake wholesome wood-oven pizzas to this day. They are open on Friday and Saturday evenings, and bookings can be made by phone on 8556 2571. Before becoming a pizza restaurant, the building was many other things - a blacksmith's residence, a church manse and a bootmaker's residence. Its slate roof and window joinery have been retained though.

One of the good examples of a late 19th-century store is the state-heritage-listed Terre Cafe & Bar (number 44). This former Atkinson bakery has been converted into a licensed cafe with various themed nights each month. For example, at the end of May, it's a Spanish three-course meal for $40 per person. Do follow them on Facebook if you want to keep up-to-date with future offerings.

If none of these eateries take your fancy, then why not check out Old Bush Inn (number 51)? It is a rustic and relaxed state-heritage-listed pub with open fireplaces as well as a picturesque full-length bullnose verandah. The building itself is constructed of stone with brick quoins. Daily specials include curry, seasonal pie and more. Those with children would be pleased to know that the pokies have been removed a number of years ago.

As for shopping, you'll have the opportunity to stock up on bottles of wine at Hither & Yon (number 17) whose vineyards are scattered around McLaren Vale. The cellar door is housed in Willunga's old butcher shop built in the 1860s. Its slate flooring and limestone walls have been retained. You can indulge in wine tasting or a cheese platter during your visit. Being a pair of inter-connecting shops, the space is shared with locally inspired cafe de Rose Kitchen .

You can also shop at Willunga Gallery (number 29). This small single-storey gallery showcases the work of Australian artists. Paintings, greeting cards, accessories, homewares and jewellery are among the products on sale. Its slate roof is original, however, the bullnose verandah was added later. Parts of the building have been rendered too.

What was previously a bank is now a hair and beauty salon. Constructed circa 1860, the building was a National Bank with an adjacent residence before becoming the Bank of Adelaide and subsequently the ANZ Bank. Willunga Hair & Beauty (number 7) occupies the premises today. It is open on weekdays, and appointments can be made either by phone on 8556 2772 or via their Facebook page.

Lastly, if you'd like to spend more time in Willunga, 1839 Cottages (number 27) could be an option to consider. This bed and breakfast was originally a Primitive Methodist Church. When the church closed, it became a private dwelling and then a restaurant. You can stay the night in air-conditioned rooms with private bathroom and parking.
