Working in the city, it's the perfect opportunity to explore the many coffee options that Melbourne offers.

It doesn't matter what part of the CBD you are in, there will be many of cafes and specialty roasters to explore.

The funnest part is stumbling upon new gems. I went to try Captains of Industry , a vintage looking place that also offers shoe and barber services.

As I climbed the stairs into this industrial looking building off a laneway, I found out it unfortunately didn't open until 9am. Still the location and concept was so unique, encapsulating that quirky feeling of Melbourne's cafes.

Luckily I stumbled upon Lt. Nic on Lonsdale St. This is almost easy to walk past - located immediately next to Melbourne Central I wondered how I had never spotted it before!

Their cute signs were a nice touch and the coffee was great too. However I think they still need to brush up on their service, they are nice but a little disorganised and slow at times.

For a cafe focused on fairtrade, 2Pocket is also hidden between Melbourne Central on Little Lonsdale St. I nearly missed it because I was on the wrong side. The cafe is bigger than expected and it's great seeing other curious people walk past, realise it's a cafe, then walk in to try it.

Not only do they make great coffee, they also sell a range of fairtrade products ranging from chocolate to bags.

A little further out and on the Parliament end, you'll find Traveller on Crossley St, a specialty coffee roaster that uses the famous Seven Seeds coffee. Often the specialty roasters are quite small, the limited laneway seating outside though just exhibited a different part of Melbourne culture.

Laneway culture, coffee culture, whatever you want to call it, just shows Melburnians will go to any lengths for coffee even if it means sitting on a ledge outside. The coffee was a bit more expensive at $4 - maybe also due to their more corporate location.

Sometimes I find specialty coffee a bit more bitter but don't mind - you can truly taste the different types of coffees they all use. I also loved their coffee cup design!

What is even better about Melbourne is that new places are always popping up. I found out via Instagram a new little place had popped up close to work so went on a venture, experiencing that similar feeling of walking down a laneway feeling half-lost.

I almost gave up on this finding it but after some more Google mapping I found the newly opened Little Rogue on Drewery Lane.

The cafe was small but the staff were enthusiastic and lovely. The small size cup was smaller than usual for $3.50 but I often drink my coffee slowly and forget about the last bit, so it's probably a better size for me.

As well as that, they use Small Batch Roast coffee - a favourite after trying it at Everyday Coffee in Collingwood. Sometimes quality is better than quantity!

If you're after a bit more of a snack, donuts are the new craze and you can enjoy your coffee with some unique flavours at Short Stop .

With flavours such as earl grey rose and bourbon creme brulee, there's no wonder people are in a rush to visit here all the time.

Last of all, I managed to visit the League of Honest Coffee. It was bigger and busier than any of the other cafes I had visited, with a bit of a queue and waiting time for takeaway coffee at 8.45am.

The coffee was great, using Brunswick's Padre Coffee , but the wait and impersonal feel of the place means I would prefer to come back when it's quieter. They also charge $4 for their small coffees.

With coffee places popping up all the time, Melbourne is spoilt for choices and it goes to show why we are known for our coffee. There is just more and more to try each day!
