I am always looking out for new experiences, wherever I may find myself.
Event: -
Rookwood Cemetery is the largest cemetery in the southern hemisphere, but there's more to this space than just funerals and memorials. It's an extremely multicultural area, with various cultural and ethnic groups represented, and has strong social and historical value. For just over a month in the lead up to Halloween, it will also have an artistic side, as HIDDEN – A Rookwood Sculpture Walk adds yet another layer to the site.

Hidden, which reaches its fifth year in 2013, will be open from Saturday September 21 to Thursday October 31. During this time, a series of sculptures will be nestled among gardens and graves at Rookwood, with artists having been invited to create works that meditate on mortality and related themes like life and death, love, loss and memory.

You can explore the exhibition on your own at any time between sunrise to sunset each day, but there are also a few tours you can join. Cassandra Hard Lawrie will host two curator tours over the course of the event, with these taking place on Saturday October 5 at 11.00am and Saturday October 19 at 2.00pm.

'Artists of Rookwood: Past and Present' is another tour you can join. This one goes beyond the cemetery itself and provides insights into site's history and the context of the HIDDEN exhibition. It's conducted jointly by curator Cassandra Hard Lawrie and the Friends of Rookwood and will run on Wednesday October 23, from 1.00pm to 4.00pm.

If you want to try your hand at making some art, there will be a workshop on Saturday September 28 with Stephen Hall. He has had his work featured in both the 2012 and 2013 exhibitions, and will be focusing on small-scale figurative sculptures, using wire as a base. The workshop is suitable for all experience levels and will run from 2.00pm to 4.00pm at Peacock Gallery Auburn. It costs $15.00 (including materials).

Another event to look out for is the launch event, which will he held on Saturday September 21 between 2.00pm and 5.00pm. It will include a talk by the coordinator of the Parramatta Artist Studio, Sophia Kouyoumdjian, and the announcement of the $10,000 Rookwood Necropolis Sculpture Award, followed by wine from Sculpture in the Vineyards, artwork by Art of Ice Sculpture, canapés from Reflections at Rookwood and live music from folk-pop duo The Sweet Little Army.

On Halloween, the last day of Hidden, the closing hours of the exhibition will feature a screening of artist's films from the Hidden Undiscovered project and the announcement of the winner of the Groundswell Project People's Choice Award. This special closing night event will run from 6.00pm and 8.00pm at the Village Green.
