Heyday Hong Kong Café is tucked in one of the notorious alleys of Melbourne's Chinatown. It can be easily dismissed given the bright purple sign overhanging the yellow brick front, which isn't just a facade to the less than inviting décor and dining space.

The café offers an almost endless choice of cheap eats (under $10) with Eastern and Western undertones, most of which offer more to the stomach than the eye.

The Hong-Kong style French toast is however, the most wickedly intoxicating dessert; a generous square of butter melting atop three thick slices of deep-fried toast to be drenched with maple syrup from a squeeze-happy bottle!
