Enjoy time away from the city for a mini weekend sabbatical at Heronswood House & Garden, 105 Latrobe Parade, Dromana over the weekend of Sat 29 Feb and Sun 1 Mar from 9am to 5pm for the delicious Heronswood Harvest Festival hosted by The Diggers Club. Get back to basics and celebrate homegrown harvests at the home of heirloom seeds. Be inspired to grow your own food and flowers in the stunning setting of Heronswood Historic House and Gardens.

Activities abound with Heronswood Garden guided tours, Kitchen Garden guided tours, the famous Tomato Taste Test, lunch on the pool lawn and Kids Activities on the Sunday from 11am to 2pm. Enjoy a special menu of fresh, seasonal produce created by the Fork to Fork restaurant team. Entry to the Festival is FREE to Diggers Club Members and kids under 16, and $10 for non-members. However, if you join on the day, you'll receive a free gift. Why not join ahead online and get in for FREE.

Free mini-workshops are on offer if you'd love to know tips and tricks about growing garlic, or berries for your backyard. Learn more about cut flowers from garden to vase. Unfortunately, spending a few hours with an incredible father and son team is all SOLD OUT. Lucky for those who will be at a masterclass learning to preserve the Italian Way with father and son duo Dr Pietro Demaio and Dr Sandro Demaio.

However, if you're a member of The Diggers Club, you can purchase the Preserving The Italian Way by Pietro Demaio book for $39.95. A best-seller among members and a bible for many, traditional Italian preserving methods and recipes are included for everything from eggplants to olives, grappa to ricotta. Written with typical Italian passion and filled with a rich collection of recipes mixed with childhood memories and anecdotes from his travels, it's a 268-page softcover reprinted in 2011.

Console yourself with live music and a seasonal lunch or snack on the pool lawn by the historic house. The Festival menu includes a delicious Heronswood classic like the vegetable tart, plus gourmet BBQ sausages, roast heirloom vegetable salad, buckwheat & tabouleh salad, potato pesto salad, and garden cucumber, tomato & leafy greens. For the sweet tooth, there's a selection of housemade sweets such as rhubarb apple cake, flourless orange cake, chocolate brownie slice and fresh-baked berry muffins. Delicious enough to make you salivate just reading about it. Ridge Estate Olive Oil will be showcasing its award-winning extra virgin olive oil & olives and Trofeo Estate Winery will offer tastings of their premium sustainably produced wine range. Enjoy the beautiful surrounds and delicious offerings with a program that runs as follows.
