However, if you're a member of The Diggers Club, you can purchase the Preserving The Italian Way by Pietro Demaio book for $39.95. A best-seller among members and a bible for many, traditional Italian preserving methods and recipes are included for everything from eggplants to olives, grappa to ricotta. Written with typical Italian passion and filled with a rich collection of recipes mixed with childhood memories and anecdotes from his travels, it's a 268-page softcover reprinted in 2011.
Console yourself with live music and a seasonal lunch or snack on the pool lawn by the historic house. The Festival menu includes a delicious Heronswood classic like the vegetable tart, plus gourmet BBQ sausages, roast heirloom vegetable salad, buckwheat & tabouleh salad, potato pesto salad, and garden cucumber, tomato & leafy greens. For the sweet tooth, there's a selection of housemade sweets such as rhubarb apple cake, flourless orange cake, chocolate brownie slice and fresh-baked berry muffins.
