The Tea Tree Gully Heritage Museum is commemorating the ANZAC Spirit on Sunday 23rd April, from 1pm to 4pm, in their tribute to local lads, the Harper brothers and Drury boys, whose lives were taken on their first day of fighting in the Battle of the Somme, WW1.
LEST WE FORGET - HARPER BROTHERS is an ongoing display which was opened 2014 and has since been extended, thanks to digital archives from the Australian War Memorial and local community memorabilia.
Have you ever heard of Harper's Field? It's a football oval dedicated to the brother's memory? I'm a local to the region and I never had before. The Museum state that "history is for all ages" and we never stop learning from the annals of history, myself included.
Do you know the origins of the ANZAC biscuit? Originally a recipe from 1823, the current, much-loved recipe can be traced back to a South Australian recipe book of 1910. Still learning! Get hands on in the ANZAC biscuit bake off, be intrigued by displays of uniforms, military models, the authentic blacksmith, or old police cells. Artist, Gary Spicer's, emotive exhibition depicting WW1 to Afganistan will be a highlight.
While you are there ask about the Museum's '
Paranormal Lock-ins ', historic bus tours and for more details of their regular Heritage On Sundays events. Still more to find out!
You can enjoy a sumptuous Devonshire tea, meander through the gardens or take time to contemplate the dedication of our service men and women, current and past.
Enjoy the day, honour their memory - lest we forget.
