The is a celebration of life on the Fleurieu Peninsula, focusing mainly on the coastal towns of Yankalilla, Normanville, Second Valley and Delamere. Some events are also being held in other towns including Myponga, home of the popular indoor market .

While the festival is part of South Australia's History Festival , there are many other cultural activities such as art exhibitions happening at the same time. We attended the regional launch of the history festival at the Yankalilla Museum and it was wonderful to see locals dressed in Victorian costumes, and providing free live entertainment and musical performances.

The Yankalilla and District Historical Society and the District Council of Yankalilla have worked together to put on a fantastic variety of events throughout May, which will encourage people in Adelaide to come and visit the rolling hills of the district more often. Many of the events for the are free, while others cost just a modest amount.

One event is so popular that it has already booked out: a bus trip from Adelaide to the beautiful Fleurieu Coast with a guided tour of Old Normanville and Old Yankalilla has very quickly sold out, although you can do a similar self-guided tour by bicycle yourself from the Yankalilla Bay Visitor Information Centre. Most other events are still open for booking online.

Take a free historical walking tour of Yankalilla or Normanville , bring your dog and do the Million Paws Walk on the Second Valley heritage trail, or come to the launch of the Skills and Trades of the Past : A Living Museum. Afterwards, there are plenty of and restaurants in Yankalilla cafes and restaurants in Yankalilla to find a tasty meal of wholesome country goodness. But don't overlook the pies and pasties at the awesome Yankalilla bakery!

If you're looking for something less energetic to do during the , how about listening to Songs of Heritage ? There are plenty of art exhibitions such as the Fleurieu Coast Youth Art exhibition and the History Through Art exhibition, or check out the Rogers Road Vintage Car & Tractor exhibition.

Gardeners will be keen to learn Traditional Preserving & Cool Storing: Capers and Farm Produce , and genealogists will fall into line for the guided cemetery tour at the State Heritage St James Anglican Church in Delamere. Come along to an archaeological dig in Yankalilla, discover the highlights of Myponga and Myponga Beach , or visit the tiny town of Inman Valley - the world is your oyster on the Fleurieu Peninsula.

Find the full program for the online here , or follow the on Facebook . I found the Facebook feed useful because new ancillary events are being continually announced. There are exciting things to do throughout May on the Fleurieu coast of South Australia for the history festival, and it's a beautiful time of the year to visit. Don't miss it!
