Herbs are so much more than a piece of parsley used as a garnish to make a culinary dish look more attractive. After all, what would roast lamb be without mint sauce? Or Spaghetti Bolognese without oregano?

I personally cannot think of a cheese platter without pesto, which is absolutely loaded with basil. And my favourite herbal treat of all time, for those nights when you want to relax in front of a movie with a glass of wine, is Philadelphia Cream Cheese with sweet chilli sauce, covered with a roughly torn layer of fresh coriander and crackers.

Herbs have a variety of uses including culinary, medicinal and in some cases, spiritual usage.

The Queensland Herbal Society is hosting a Herb Awareness Day on Sunday, May 22nd. Everyone is welcome and entry is free.

This day will provide the opportunity to learn about growing and using herbs. And do you know what is so great about growing your own herbs - they can grow in a pot on a balcony or on a windowsill. Big backyards are not mandatory.

There will also be a large variety of culinary and medicinal herbs and plants for sale. Stallholders will be on hand to offer advice and answer your questions.

There will also be stalls offering herbal products for purchase. These include teas, coffees, soaps and other skincare items. There will be herbal preserves for sale as well as wines. Wines? Now that peaks my interest!

You will even have the opportunity to relax at the Cafe Sage with herb inspired food and beverages.

Doors open at 9am and close at 4pm at the Albion Peace Centre, 102 McDonald Road, Windsor.

And lastly, if a parsley farmer is sued, can they garnish his wages?
