The Hendon Hotel, (Tappleys Hill Road, Royal Park) has a huge sign on its wall which says: "Home of the 6.90 meal". I decided to check this out and see whether, like some places, there was only one meal at that price. I was pleasantly surprised to find they had a whole special board all at $6.90.
My friend has allergies and often cannot find anything to suit on the special menu, so we were pleased to find Regular Menu items were reasonable. Hendon Beef Burger $13.90, Grilled Chicken Burger $13.90, a range of pasta from $12.90, Schnitzel in two sizes $8.90 & $13.90. There were also a range of meat dishes from between $10.90 (Butter chicken) and $18.90 (mixed grill).
Our serves were reasonable in size. The only catch was that the $6.90 meal did not include a bread roll and I was offered a roll for 50c extra. I said "yes". Every other meal, from the $8.90 schnitzel upwards includes a small roll.
The deserts were reasonably priced, so we indulged. I had a fried ice-cream, which is rather unique. This did not turn out as authentic as the Chinese fried ice-cream I used to love, but was very enjoyable.
