I was looking for a cafe to sit in, as millions of people do across the globe, to experience breakfast in Manly. I wasn't sure what I'd find when I wandered away from the main mall.



I was delighted when I did discover Hemmingways . A small food place with a unique character that is filled with books and has a character that takes you on a journey of its own.

I think that's what makes one small place stand out from others, the atmosphere that can trancsend the mere experience of eating. Hemmingways incorporates both foods and an atmosphere that is amazing, fun and enjoyable. With toasts and cocopops for breakfast if the more complex structured cooked foods are by now well eaten most Saturdays.

Hemmingways is one of those places. Sitting on the counter was a pile of old encyclopedias. World Book Encyclopedia from what year I do not know, but my mind drifted to early years and the ever present set of encyclopedias that adorned many an Australian home. Filled with details of just about anything a child could think of and more.

There were those people pouring over the daily paper, others in deep discussion and one or two working away on laptops looking diligently writeresque.

The lunch menu , interesting, simple and highly edible. The restaurant's evening foods I have not experienced, yet the menu is one that is different, simple and has the most amazing desserts to finish with.

I liked Hemmingways. The service brilliant, the food and coffee good. The experience remembered. If visiting for lunch, they have a deal that includes a delicate ale.
