Former Launceston ingénue Heloise is set to launch her new single 'This is Home' at The Workers Club, Fitzroy on Thursday 30 April. Winner of the 2014 Melbourne Music Bank competition, the song is a testament to her now found home of Melbourne where she's been residing for the last couple of years. This coming May she'll celebrate her two-year anniversary.

The Taswegian folk artist cut her musical teeth early, performing "gigs solo in pubs" while her mother "sent off huge glares to old guys!" The nine-year old singer \ guitarist went on to poach Lee Mallinson her musician mothers guitarist and started doing duo gigs. "I was like ahhhhhhh, we should get a band around it, keyboard, drummer, and we just introduced an upright bass player over the past … maybe year." The all Tasmanian outfit now live in between Melbourne and Tasmania, "it is easier" and perform regularly as a trio with the drum and upright bass. While having the band in one spot would be ideal, she acknowledges the reality, "they are a little bit older, have a mortgage, house, dog, and they all have responsibilities!"

She admits it is getting to an exciting point where they'd like to do things at "the drop of a hat," and juggling work and music is keeping her busy. "It is what I love to do, anything that is music related obviously makes me happy. It's what I want to do for the rest of my life."

While Tassy has some "amazing talent, huge creative scene down there," Heloise advises there isn't the "venues or scene to cater for it. Tasmanians move to where everything is. The population is not as big and there is probably three live music venues in Launceston, Hobart is better." She laughs and explains, even though she's moved to Melbourne, "I'm still a magnet for Tassy people!"

Off the back of her Melbourne Music Bank win, it seems meeting people has become the call of the day. "It was such a good leg up for me, I've been introduced to people I wouldn't of otherwise met. All the PR, it's so good … you can't really buy that stuff." She says one of the most "useful prizes" was the video clip and she did with director Wilk, "it really furthered what I was doing."

Another coup for the band is a video for Tasmanian company Cripps Bakery; "we're mostly arranging it at the moment to see what is going to work for a one minute thirty ad." When asked what it is all about, she explains, "Cripps Bakery sort of had this new fancy, artisan hipster bread. They did this really beautiful ad, with lots of Tasmanian scenery."

A lover of all things nature and eclectic, the project, amongst many others keeps her firing on all cylinders. I ask how she manages it all? "I am the most unorganised person on the planet! But I've got a diary It's the best thing I've ever purchased. I have a shocking memory, so much is going on in my brain, and I have to write everything down."

The band as a collective however, are pretty organised and even have a band kitty. "We try and put away stuff from gigs into an account, draw on it if we need to." She adds, spending money on her career is no biggie, "it's an investment, I have no qualms at all spending my money on things." It's a fine balancing act between her day job and "spending my nights gigging. My bosses are really good … they will be at the launch!"

Music may occupy a good deal of her time, but downtime is few and far between. "I can't do anything, except for Netflix I love that kind of thing!" It seems at this pace, Heloise it set to follow in the footsteps of her mother, an accomplished musician also. "She gigs a lot, does the jazz thing. She was signed to Warner Records and was in a rock band. Then she had me and now she potters along with her dog and cats!" I ask if she'd consider a show with her mum? She laughs and tells me, "everyone is like, 'do a gig with your mum!'" Pausing she says they are really similar, and it's "so good having a parent who's been through the industry. She edits all my stuff; I'd be lost without her. It's good to have someone that knows the ins and outs."

Heloise confirms while the guidance has been instrumental, "she understands the drive and determination."

Héloise is set to release her debut EP later this year.
