Take the Melbourne Knowledge Test
Titled Hello Yellow, this free exhibition takes an in-depth look at the relationship between Melbourne's taxi drivers and their passengers over the decades and how this interaction has shaped the city we know today.
Most of us have had "the taxi experience" and the ensuing stories are diversely rich and colourful. For some, it was a harrowing experience but for others, it was an exciting part of everyday life.
Peak Hour Rush
Melbourne was the first city in Australia to use a motorised taxi service and drawing from Melbourne's Art and Heritage collection, this exhibition follows the extraordinary social journey from beginning to present day
Our current view of Melbourne and its very diverse cultural society has been shaped by the human interactions between drivers and their pasengers, some of which are the silent travellers while others enjoy "bending another's ear". Either way, they've all had an impact on the end result.
Using photographs, art displays, images and 3D objects, this event depicts how our modern culture developed and was largely influenced by driver-passenger interactions.
For those of us who have ever mentally berated our Melbourne taxi drivers for their seeming lack of local knowledge, the challenge is now there. Step up and take the Melbourne Knowledge test. No doubt, there will be some really surprising results! Hurry along- it finishes on 28th July.
