While it's notoriously difficult to spot koalas in the wild, this April, finding koalas will be much easier if you head to Campbelltown, in south west Sydney.

During April, you'll be able to meet the stars of the Hello Koalas Sculpture Trail when they arrive in Campbelltown. The trail features over 20 bright and colourful koala sculptures in an exhibition to celebrate the beloved koala and raise awareness about the plight of this vulnerable marsupial by highlighting an important conservation message.

The Hello Koalas Sculpture Trail is a creative way to promote koala conservation, as well as the conservation of other threatened animal and plant species in Australia. The concept was developed by Arts and Health Australia Pty Ltd (AHA), and was established in 2014 with a permanent home in Port Macquarie.

According to AHA a key objective of the trail is "to raise awareness of the importance of protecting our koalas from the loss of habitat and food due to property development and urbanisation, road strikes, dog attacks in backyards, climate change and drought, and diseases such as Chlamydia."

Each koala sculpture measures around one metre high and has been hand-painted by Australian artists. Each design is unique with creations such as Buzzy Bee, by artist Lisa Burrell, which celebrates Australia's diverse native bees and the native flowers that represent each state's floral emblems.

From the 1st April until 30th April 2021, you're invited to bring the whole family to visit the koalas in the Australian Botanic Garden Mount Annan, as well as the other locations across Campbelltown. The trail will feature 22 koala sculptures in five locations including:

Campbelltown City Council
Campbelltown Art Centre
Campbelltown Visitor Centre
Ingleburn Library
Australian Botanic Garden Mount Annan

To help find the koalas and learn about each one, you can download a trail guide. When you visit the garden, use the Garden Explorer link on the website and choose the Tour option, then the Hello Koalas Tour option to find the koalas on the site.

The Hello Koalas Sculpture Trail is hosted by Campbelltown City Council and the Australian Botanic Garden Mount Annan.

The Australian Botanic Garden is open from 8am until 5pm during April. Entry is free.
