Originally created in the '70s, the iconic Hello Kitty is loved by many around the globe and it's purrfect news that a festival has popped up in Sydney in honour of this Japanese cartoon character.

Landing in and transforming Darling Square, invites you to come and play with Hello Kitty and Friends in a feast of art, fun and flavour. There's plenty to see and photograph for your Instagram account, including the 5-metre tall Hello Kitty inflatable that lights up at night, in this free outdoor art gallery.



The impressive exhibition also sees illustrations by world-class artists and graphic designers, a large-scale mural by Australian Justine McAllister, digital displays and an arrangement of cute characters blowing like flags in a breeze atop an awning in the Square.




When hunger sets in, enjoy some uniquely-themed food and drink specials from establishments surrounding the Square. Kushy has fun Bento boxes and Donburi bowls, whilst Ume Burger is serving up a Bad Badtz-Maru bacon cheeseburger, artsy cafe Auvers brings a Lazy Egg burger amongst an entire menu of feline-themed options, Dopa by Devon has a sandwich of divine strawberry and cream ice cream encased in Hello Kitty shortbread cookies, adorable stacks of pancakes will flow from Pancakes on the Rocks, a Hello Kitty rose mocktail will put you in the mood at Uliveto, and KeroKeroKeroppi Matcha and Hello Kitty strawberry yoghurt crush drinks from Bubble Nini Tea will go down easily. The list goes on and new specials will come on board each week, in addition to new eateries becoming involved.



For those wanting to pick up some Hello Kitty merchandise, bespoke products will be available in a variety of shops. From homewares to huggable plush toys, T-shirts, cosmetics, wallets, hats, umbrellas, and more, fans are sure to find something special. A competition will help you with your purchases if you're lucky enough to win one of thirty $50 gift vouchers for spending in . To enter, you must follow the Darling Square Instagram account and comment and tag a friend in the competition post. Three winners will be drawn every week for 10 weeks.
