My friend and I am always on the look-out for cheap deals. We found one at a high-end restaurant - Heaven Gastro Lounge. A deal of $39, offering a two course dining experience for two people. In short, we were offered an entrée and a main course each.

Opening Hours and Address

The experience is quite unique from normal dining at restaurants which offer meals under $15. The entrées are at least $15 and the mains are priced around $27 to $36. However, when you look at the dishes, one can easily recognise the reasons why they are moderately priced.

We booked a table during the lunch hour, which was a good time because the rush hour is at dinner time. Greeting us at the door was the restaurant manager herself - Margaret. She was very polite and professional. She led us to our table and promptly laid out the menu before us. She then proceeded to go through the entrées and mains, explaining in detail how the dishes are prepared and cooked. Her service was prompt and efficient. It was very enjoyable to chat with Margaret too.

Entree 1: Cured New Zealand King Salmon served with salmon caviar and fresh crispy salad.

The salmon was fresh, tasty and not at all fishy. There were two sauces that complimented the salmon. The caviar was succulent and popped pleasantly inside the mouth.

Entree 2: Prawn Fritters with Thai Dipping Sauce and crispy salad.

The prawn fritters was not too oily, despite being fried. The Thai dipping sauce had a sweet and savoury taste, which went well with the prawn fritters. My only lament is that there were only 2 prawn fritters.

Main 1: Pork Hock with chilli caramel sauce, apple puree, Vietnamese salad, pickled melon and pan seared scallops.

The pork hock had been cooked to the point that the fat and meat simply melted in your mouth. The fruity taste of the apple puree helped to balance out the sweetness of the sauce on the pork hock. The pan seared scallops were cooked just right and had the right chewy texture. The scallops also came with two cubes of watermelon to cleanse the palette.

Both my friend and I chose the same main. To our delight, the main dish - 'Pork Hock' was the highlight of the meal.

The restaurant had a wonderful, romantic setting. The lights were dimmed. The seats and table were clean and comfortable. It also has a bar near the entrance, which I believe is active at dinner time.

If you are driving, you will be able to find 1 hour parking immediately outside the restaurant. Tram 25 also travels along St Kilda Road - in front of the restaurant.

This restaurant would be an ideal place to have corporate lunches or for couples who are not afraid to spend a little more on a good meal and service.
