A poignant exhibition dedicated to a WA screen icon
Fans of Western Australian film icon Heath Ledger can celebrate his life and achievements in pictures in a new, free exhibition at the Art Gallery of WA.
Heath Ledger: A Life In Pictures will show from Saturday, 14th October 2017 to Monday, 29th January 2018. Discover Heath Ledger – the boy from Perth, the screen legend and the passionate filmmaker in this exhibition of photographic stills and moving images as curated by the Western Australian Museum in partnership with the Art Gallery and featuring work by international photographers Karin Catt and Bruce Weber.
Ledger rose through the ranks of Home and Away actor to Hollywood superstar before his death in 2008. His charisma, intense commitments to his roles and his on-screen talent captivated audiences with performances in Brokeback Mountain and perhaps his most celebrated role as The Joker in The Dark Knight (although my personal favourites will always be Two Hands and 10 Things I Hate About You.)
The exhibit will document his years as a budding film maker in Perth through to his final film, The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus and will showcase costumes from his most iconic roles in The Dark Knight and Brokeback Mountain.

Ledger's research journals will also be on display for the first time – read about how he nurtured a deep commitment to every performance and prepared for his biggest movie roles.
The exhibit is free to enter and will run during Art Gallery opening hours from 10am to 5pm. The Art Gallery is closed on Tuesdays and Christmas Day. The exhibition will be open until 7:30pm every Friday and Saturday night from Friday, 21st October 2017 to Saturday, 27th January 2018. The Gallery will be closed on Friday, 10th November, Saturday, 25th November and Friday, 1st December.
This is an absolute must-see exhibit for any fan of Heath Ledger – discover the man behind the movie characters and take an in-depth look at his greatest achievements in a life lost far too young.
