Heartstopper Volume One introduces the readers to Charlie Spring, a gay teenager struggling with his sexuality, who attends a British all- boy grammar school. One day, Charlie meets Nick Nelson, a cheerful boy who plays rugby, and there are immediate sparks. The two of them quickly become friends and Charlie develops a crush on Nick, but this makes him miserable, because he is sure that Nick is straight and would never be able to return his feelings. Over time, he starts to notice signs that Nick might like him more than he thinks. The two of them start to grow closer and feelings begin to develop.
Heartstopper was a fantastic read. The relationship that we see develop between Charlie and Nick was so wholesome. The friendship that grows between them starts off slow, with nervous glances and shy smiles, and then slowly crosses the line into late-night texting, hugging, and hand-holding. This was such a beautiful book. I can see why the series has developed such a strong following online. Charlie and Nick are so cute together and watching them grow closer and develop their relationship was very sweet. For more information about
