A truly heartwarming experience

With its sensory wonderland, the opening night of HEARTLAND was a resounding success.

HEARTLAND is part of SALA Festival 2013 (South Australian Living Artists) and coincides with NAIDOC Week (National Aboriginal and Islander Day Observance Committee).

Chris De Rosa's Artificial Kingdom

Masterfully curated by Nici Cumpston and Lisa Slade - they deserve serious kudos for the wealth of artistic talent sourced from regional and urban South Australia.

Both indigenous and non-indigenous art forms come together to present a landscape of the artists interpretation of place, country and identity.

Amata Community's Tjala Arts exhibition - superb!!

A truly collaborative exhibition, HEARTLAND is funded by Arts SA which has enabled the artists to realise their full potential, resulting in a fully engaging exhibition - one of the best I've ever attended.

The Studio has been given a HEARTLAND makeover and offers educational art activities. School groups are welcome.

The Studio has had a HEARTLAND makeover - seen here are opening night guests of all ages keenly participating.

Annalise Rees' installation Latitude/Longitude invites guests to "make your place, shape your space; draw, cut, fold and build your place in the world; be the creator of your universe". Opening night guests were readily accepting Annalise's invitation to do just that (I had to drag my son away - he was hooked).

Art Gallery of South Australia; Art Gallery of SA; HEARTLAND, Paul Sloan
One of Paul Sloan's images is projected by laser at night onto the backdrop of a neighbouring building - spectacular!!

On opening night, there was a brilliant laser light image display of Paul Sloan's artwork - later seen in real form in the exhibition.

We enjoyed this exhibition so much that we'll be returning for a couple more rounds of interactive heaven. On loan (for free) from the information desk are iPods which have the QR reader downloaded onto them to enable visitors to enjoy a self-guided audio tour. Alternatively, bring your own iPod, iPhone etc. with the QR reader installed and scan the QR code for HEARTLAND and enjoy!

Free personally guided tours are available daily and weekends will provide the opportunity to attend artist and curator talks.

Amy Joy Watson artfully and playfully dabbles with geometry and gravity in this awesome creation!!

Make sure you check out the Gallery Shop which has a great range of Tjala Arts jewellery and art. HEARTLAND for Kids is a publication selling for $10 and is designed for children aged 5-12 years of age which is chocked full of art activities. The beautifully produced HEARTLAND catalogue is priced at $20.

We guarantee you won't be disappointed - this exhibition is suitable for the whole family and a great day out. Full events program here.
