Films that leave you uplifted and glad you made the journey
You are re invited to the 7th Annual Heart of Gold International Film Festival. Hosted in the country town of Gympie from October 9 -12 2014. Genuine country style hospitality and a world-class program including Academy Award winners and films that have graced the world's top festivals makes for a feel good, fun event. A perfect opportunity to see a number of brilliant films in Queensland.

Gympie is known as the Town that Saved Queensland. Queensland was facing bankruptcy due to drought and the fall in wool price and the discovery of gold by James Nash in 1867 saved the state. The Town Hall proudly occupies the site of discovery. The name Heart of Gold pays tribute to Gympie's gold-mining history as well as the content of the films that are shown at these festivals.

Gympie Countryside

A country town surrounded by rolling hills and the flowing Mary River. A town rich in history and culture with heritage listed buildings and stunning 19th Century Victorian architecture. This beautifully nestled town explodes in colour when the Jacaranda trees bloom.

Artistic director Tahnee McGuire said "Anyone who comes to a Heart of Gold session will walk away uplifted, surprised and definitely having had a laugh. The Family Shorts sessions are especially delightful, enjoyed by all of us adults who had the privilege of choosing the best ones to screen for younger viewers. If festival visitors are interested in seeing a particular film they can now tailor their visit to coincide with that film's screening session. People should look out for the trailers of the movies that will soon appear on our Facebook and web pages."

The festival's feature presentation will be In Bob We Trust a movie about Father Bob, who faithfully served his parish for four decades. He was promised a parish for life and later forced by the Vatican to retire. This is the start of a battle with the church hierarchy.

Steve Bisley, best known for his roles in Water Rats, Police Rescue, Stingers and Sea Patrol, is the patron of the Heart of Gold festival. Directors Michael and Peter Spierig of the internationally acclaimed film, Predestination, are the judges for the overall winner of the Heart of Gold festival.

The festival will be at The Heritage Theatre ideally located among wonderful cafes and the venue offers tiered seating ensuring perfect viewing

"We are excited to be able to continue with the festival which is becoming a much loved and anticipated event, local support has enabled the event to continue and grow bringing the great festival to life and many visitors to our region, providing a real injection of tourist dollars, chairman of the board", Maxine Baldwin said
