Winter chills can be a deterrent for most people to enjoy outdoor activities. So, having an opportunity to join a walking group with the trained guides is a great way to exercise your body while meeting with like-minded people for mutual encouragement. By joining a walking group, this will certainly heighten your motivation for exercise in winter.

Heart Foundation Walking – Park Walks is a joint initiative between the Heart Foundation and the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service. The program aims to encourage participants and community members to enjoy themselves in their local natural environments.

To meet different needs of people due to varied ages and fitness levels, the program offers a wide selection of free guided walks led by Park Guides. Most walks are graded as easy to medium and are between one to three hours, offering lots of fun for everyone.

The Park Walks program runs throughout 2012. You'll enjoy a great walking experience in various natural places, including conservation parks, recreation parks, beaches and botanic gardens.

You can check the Park Walks full program here to find out what locations and dates best suit you. Registration is essential. As the program may change, check the organisation for the latest information. Make sure you wear suitable clothing and footwear as well as bring a bottle of water and some food for the walk.

There is also a range of other group walking events being held throughout the year for Heart Foundation Walking members and the general community in various states. This is a network of free community-based walking groups with volunteer Walk Organisers who lead groups in your local area. I include a snapshot of various walking destinations in NSW below for your quick reference.
