After hearing about such 'beercades' I was desperate to check one out and what better event to try it than my birthday.

American arcades are the stuff of movies. I was aware I may not appreciate some of the old games as much as my American boyfriend, as in England I can say I never 'hung out' in such places. However I do remember playing on my uncles Sega MegaDrive and beating him at Mortal Combat by bashing all the buttons as hard and quickly as I could. So I was delighted to find that a majority of the games in the beercade catered to my abilities.

Walking in I knew this place was going to be amazing. The words 'Don't Grow up, it's a Trap' shined brightly above our heads which seemed to be the theme of my Birthday so far. It had two levels packed with games of different varieties from pinball to X-men to Pac Man. The place was decorated with mixtapes, vinyls, and everything else that was once deemed 'cool.' Tv screens played Indiana Jones and Back to the Future plus the music wasn't too bad either. Three large bars boasted no queues/lines and the staff were very friendly.

The drinks were reasonably priced for a novelty bar downtown on a Friday night but even so no body seemed extremely drunk due to the distraction of playing the games.

A fantastic night was had by all and we intend to go back as often as we can.
Head Quarters River North is easy to get to by CTA train on the Brown Line and also does food.
