Head into Haymarket this Winter

Need a quick getaway this winter with the family or even a weekend 'staycation' with friends? Heading into Sydney's Haymarket over the next few months will feel like a holiday with so much happening.
The Haymarket area is located a close stroll to popular Darling Harbour and all its cafes, restaurants and attractions such as the IMAX Theatre, Sydney Wildlife World, Powerhouse Museum, Sydney SEALIFE Aquarium and much more.
And during the upcoming winter months, there's so much on offer, you'll struggle to fit it in a weekend.
Where to stay:
The
Novotel Sydney Central is just that, completely central to everywhere you want to be. Recently renovated and offering plenty of space for traveling couples and families, you'll be walking distance from all the major attractions above as well as Sydney's theater district and loads of great places to shop and dine.
The hotel offers all the comforts you'd expect as well as a few added perks such as a rooftop heated pool, in room yoga, and even a 24 hour gym for those who still like to stay fit whilst traveling.
Unpack and venture out into the city, or stay put for awhile and enjoy the spacious rooms. If you do venture out in the city, makes sure to work up and appetite as the breakfast offerings the next morning are certainly worth working up an appetite for.
If you're traveling as a couple or even solo, the lobby bar is a great place to have a quite drink and feel completely at ease. And in house restaurant, Field House is reasonably priced, not too noisy (great place for those who value conversation over dinner) and the service is friendly and welcoming.
Where to be entertained:
From now until August 2nd, the Capitol Theatre (just a few minutes walk from the Novotel) will be home of the long-running Broadway sensation, Les Misérables.
Based on the 1862 Victor Hugo literary classic, the show has recently become an Academy Award winning movie, starring the likes of Hugh Jackman and Russel Crowe.
The show has been performed all over the globe for millions in 42 countries and continues to break theatre box office records.
Tickets for the show are available via the Les Misérables website at LesMis.com.au and start at $55.
Where to dine:
If you're a Sydney local or you've driven down Goulburn Street, passing popular Malaysian restaurant, Mamak, you're likely to have spotted the long queue of people stretching down the street and asked yourself, "Is it worth lining up for?"
The answer is yes. Y.E.S.
First off, Mamak's hawker-style food is authentic, delicious and priced like authentic hawker-style food should be. Cheap.
Located on the corner of Goulburn Street, near Chinatown's popular Dixon Street, Mamak is a great place to grab a bite before (or after) a show. Just be prepared to queue. Seriously, the line starts before Mamak actually opens. late night diners will be pleased to know that you can still get a table on weekend until the wee hours of 2 a.m.
The plus side is that while you're waiting you can easily watch the chefs through the shop windows preparing some of the restaurants more popular dishes in anticipation of the mass exodus of hungry diners waiting outside.
Mamak offers up a buzzy atmosphere (i.e. it's noisy) and the menu isn't so big that's it intimidating to those who haven't tried Malay food in past.
While the roti canai, (an Indian-inspired flatbread) is what seems to be one of the most popular dishes, (and rightfully so!) the curries and rice or noodle dishes are also a hit.
Really, it's hard to go wrong here.
Mamak is not licensed, but does offer BYO, so if you take a strolldown from your hotel, just pop into a local bottle shop before dinner.
No matter if you're a Sydney local or an out-of-towner, get out of hibernation and indulge in a bit of a weekend away over these winter months!
